With fuel costs at an all-time high, the need to control transport expenses has become more critical than ever. Nozzle based technology and Automatic Vehicle Recognition (AVR) is one of the most innovative ways to do this. It’s a system that guarantees the right fuel in the right tank, as well as the reduction of unauthorized refuelling. It also collects and reports a wide variety of data to you automatically, providing even greater control over the management of your fleet.
With the fully automated AVR systems, drivers can refuel without using credit cards, pin codes or cash. They simply fuel and go. What’s more, computerized vehicle identification makes unauthorized usage almost impossible. When used in combination with support software, AVT can also pass along management information directly to your company. This provides fleet managers with accurate data for periodic maintenance scheduling, bookkeeping and cost analysis.
Proven Method
Since its introduction in the 1980s, AVR has proven its value time and time again. In fact, in some countries, a full 60 percent of all fleet refuelling is now handled this way. In Europe, thousands of vehicles are being equipped with AVR each year, and deployment of the system is rapidly on the rise. It’s effective for transport companies, airports, public transport authorities, central and local governments, lease companies and any other type of organization for which fuel costs are a concern.
Intelligent System
The beauty of the AVR concept is its simplicity. Vehicle Information Units (VIUs) are first installed in each vehicle in your fleet. VIUs are state-of-the-art, digital devices that contain such information as the vehicle identification number, odometer reading, fuel type and other details that can be programmed according to your needs. Whenever a fuel nozzle is inserted into a tank inlet, data is transferred from the VIU to the station/tanker controller for verification, authorization and fuel payment. This refuelling data can then forwarded to your fleet management for further processing. By verifying both the vehicle and the type of fuel used, the system automatically eliminates unauthorized fuelling or the selection of an incorrect fuel type. The AVR system can be installed in commercial fuelling stations, as well as at your home base.
Management Reporting
AVR fuel management and reporting software makes it easy to process the data you receive. In addition to customized reporting, standard reports can be generated for such matters as fuel consumption, consumption per vehicle, inventory management and cost control.
Who Can Benefit
Based on its advanced system architecture, AVR can accommodate a wide variety of applications. It can be used by professional fleets that require data retrieval from each vehicle, as well as by private fleets that simply want to handle fuel authorization and payment transactions more efficiently. For this second group to be operational, a computer chip is first mounted around the tank inlet of each vehicle in the form of an AVR ring to allow recording of the information from your vehicle.
